What is SEO and Why Is It Important for Your Web Site?

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is an effective way to drive more traffic to your web site and consequently increase your business revenue. To drive traffic, an SEO-optimized website has to have content that is not only authoritative, but also relevant. For instance, if you were searching Google for the term ‘wedding DJ massachusetts’ Google would display results that are relevant to this term and come from a web site that possesses some domain authority. Domain Authority (DA) refers to different factors that Google and other search engines use to rank the value of a web site. DA uses popularity and age to determine the DA of a web site.

What most people don’t realize is that SEO is much more than on- and off-page optimization. In fact, there are many tools, often free, that enable those new to SEO to rank their SEO by auditing their web site. While this can be useful, it is also misleading since SEO involves much more than just on-page optimization. Local citations, backlinks, keyword research, competitor analysis, and domain authority are just a few of the common areas that SEO professionals focus on.
